Support resolving the State's structural budget deficit so as to
not unfairly burden seniors:
Start by requiring the business community to pay its fair share of
taxes. Support addressing the State's Service Deficit as well.
Support protecting economic security of
seniors with special attention to those with low and moderate income by
supporting legislation relating to economic issues that affect seniors such
as:
1. Income and property tax relief
2. Pre tax relief for health care and long term care premiums
3. Exempt federal state and local public service retirees from state
taxes on pensions
Support protecting Maryland citizens from fraud and abuse,
require financial institutions to report suspected incidents of financial
exploitation of seniors
Support increasing or at least maintaining
current funding levels for senior programs
Provide seniors with healthy and safe choices
for living:
Prepare a Maryland-wide strategic plan to meet the needs of an aging population
Provide Quality long term care
Honor the commitment to fund Older Adults Home and Community Based
Waiver
Provide Aging in Place
Provide for Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities
Support quality, affordable health care for all
seniors including:
Funding for mental health and Alzheimer's care
Affordable prescription drugs
Continuation of retiree health benefits
Providing eyeglasses, hearing aids, dental care
Support continued State funding of the Maryland Retirement and Pension
Systems
Federal Issues
Maintain Social Security benefits:
Oppose privatization.
Repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset.
Reverse privatization of Medicare
benefits. Establish a Medicare operated prescription drug program. Require the government to negotiate drug
prices. Expand Medicare to include
mental health parity.
Support pre tax payment of health and
long term care insurance premiums
Support the Elder Justice Act.
